Kō‘ele ‘opihi necklace

Kō‘ele ‘opihi (cellana talcosa) is the largest species of native Hawaiian limpet. Found underwater in slightly deeper, calmer areas (up to 10 feet) compared to other species, it is a prized, edible delicacy known for its size (up to 4 inches) and rich taste.

Each shell is found washed ashore on the island of Hawai‘i, none which are harvested live. The shells are sanded down by hand until smooth and shining, then set on a braided cord.

Each necklace is 21 inches long and can be shortened upon request. The size of each shell varies as below:

  • Medium - 2 inches (photo #2)

  • Large - 2.5 inches (photo #3)

  • XLarge - 3. Inches (photo #4)
